Day 34: Dinner

Most of the food on this diet is liquid.  Shakes, soups and puddings.  There are a couple of solid food items.  I thought today I would show you the Nacho Cheese Pasta.  It's not too bad and it really is nice to get some solid food in me once in a while.

To be clear... this is a double dose of Nacho Cheese Pasta.  I have only eating 6 packets (600 calories today) so I decided to double up to reach my minimum.  So, two packets here and this is on a salad plate.  Not a lot of food.  Probably a cup of pasta here.  But hey - it's solid food!

Day 32: Other Options

I initially found out about this weight loss program a few months ago when I received a letter from Kaiser suggesting I go on their healthy weight program which uses Optifast products.  In order to participate Kaiser required patients be at least 40 pounds overweight.  Well, I fit that bill.  However, after going to the orientation seminar and then signing up, I found out the meetings were going to be on Wednesday nights (my paperwork said Tuesday) and I could no longer participate.   That's when I discovered the Weight Management Program through Sutter Health.

I had previously heard about these extreme weight loss medical programs, but had never considered going on one of these diets, until now, of course.  I'm sure most people remember Oprah losing all that weight ... and dragging out the wagon full of fat.  She had gone on the Optifast diet.  Along the way I also heard about Medifast ... which is often mistakenly attributed to Oprah's weight loss.

Anyway, long story short, I saw an ad for Medifast in the Oprah magazine today and was intrigued.  I went to their website and was impressed.  It's a similar diet to the one I'm on.  This one is 800-1000 calories a day.  They say average weight loss is 4-5 pounds the first two weeks and about 2-pounds every week after.  However, what is very cool is the variety of foods you can get from them.  There are chips, crackers and even brownies!

The plan also allows one "regular" meal a day.  This meal is called lean and green and, on a brief glance, appears to be lots of veggies and a little protein.  A nice option if you ever want to eat food with other people.  It's always a bit awkward drinking a shake at the dinner table while everyone else is digging in.

If my current program ever gets to be too much, I may consider going the Medifast route.  Obviously I would have to do some research, but I like the option of being about to eat some solid food once in a while.  Shakes and soup are getting kinda old!  Food for thought.  (Pun intended!)

Day 31: Workplace Sabotage

Just a quick photo to show you what I have to put up with a work.  And... this isn't all of it.  The goodies spread out to a side table as well.  Some kind person/people brought all this food in today and it was all I could do to keep from digging my hands into that giant bowl of M&Ms!  And, look, the chips even had my name on the bag!

Day 31: My Favorite Treat

Here's a quick look at my favorite work-night treat!  It's Diet Coke mixed with the Dark Chocolate Flavored Meal Replacement.  Surprisingly, it's really good.  As I've mentioned before, it tastes like the old fashioned chocolate cokes I used to get as a kid at the Big Top Drive-In in Madera.  Yesterday I was talking about my "dessert" treat with a friend on Facebook, so I thought I'd share a picture of it tonight.  Oh, and it's only 100 calories!

Day 31: Hunger

Over the past month I have been relatively hunger free.  Sure I have craved food, but I haven't been really hungry ... until this week.  For the past two days I have been hungry.  Every day.  Every hour.  I am not sure what changed.  I haven't cheated and I've actually been eating the full 800 required calories.  Today I'm going to try drinking more tea and water, hopefully that will help.  I have made it this far, I don't want to stop now!

Oh and by the way.  31 Days!  Woo hoo!  I can't believe I've subsisted on 800 calories a day, mostly liquids, for a full 31 days.

Breaking News

Abercrombie & Fitch is doing an about face and will soon be selling larger sizes.  Apparently their anti-fatties and anti-uggos line has cost the retailer big bucks.  It's profits have dropped for seven straight quarters and now it's having to backtrack to get back on top.  Ha!
